The National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) is Pakistan's leading public university for engineering and technology. Admission is primarily merit-based, determined by your NET (NUST Entry Test) score combined with your FSc marks. SAT scores can substitute or supplement NET results for applicants who have taken the international test.
NUST's main campus is in Islamabad (H-12 sector), with affiliated colleges in Rawalpindi, Risalpur, Quetta, Karachi, and Multan. Most programmes are offered at the main Islamabad campus.
The NET (NUST Entry Test) is the primary admission criterion. It is offered multiple times per year at NUST centers across Pakistan. If you are applying exclusively to NUST (or primarily to Pakistani universities), preparing for the NET is the priority.
The SAT is accepted as an equivalent for students who have taken it for international applications. If you are applying to both LUMS/IBA and NUST, your SAT preparation serves double duty.
NET score weighting: NET score typically carries 50–60% weight in merit calculation. FSc marks carry 30–40%, and matric marks carry 10%.
For competitive programmes (CS, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering at the main campus), NET scores above 140/200 are competitive. Check the previous year's closing merit list on nust.edu.pk for specific cutoffs.
NUST offers over 70 undergraduate programmes across schools including SEECS (Computer Science and Electrical Engineering), SMME (Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering), SCME (Chemical and Bio-Engineering), PNEC (Naval Engineering), and MCS (Management Sciences).
Programme selection is competitive. When filling your NUST preference list, be strategic: rank your first choice first, but include programmes from different schools to improve your chances of placement. Switching programmes after admission is difficult.
Provincial quota seats exist for students from Balochistan, KPK, AJK, and FATA — these have lower merit thresholds than open merit. Check your eligibility for provincial quota seats when applying.
For need-based financial aid applications:
NUST offers tiered need-based scholarships covering 25%, 50%, 75%, or full tuition based on assessed financial need. Students from underserved provinces are given priority consideration.
Apply for financial aid at the time of admission — not after. Submit your income documentation to NUST Student Financial Services alongside your admission acceptance.
Students from KPK, Balochistan, and Gilgit-Baltistan may also qualify for provincial government scholarships that supplement NUST's own aid. Do not rely on a single source — apply for every aid programme you qualify for simultaneously.
Our mentors apply what this guide covers to your specific situation — your universities, your timeline, your financial aid. Free for students from underserved districts.
