The Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) uses a holistic admissions process that evaluates your SAT score, academic record, personal statement, and extracurricular profile together. No single element is disqualifying on its own — but weakness in multiple areas significantly reduces your chances.
LUMS offers undergraduate programmes across five schools: Suleman Dawood School of Business (SDSB), Mushtaq Ahmad Gurmani School of Humanities and Social Sciences (MGSHSS), Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE), Shaikh Ahmad Hassan School of Law (SAHSOL), and the School of Education (SOE). Applications are made to a specific school and programme.
LUMS uses a rolling admissions system with early action and regular deadlines. Meeting the early deadline improves your chances and gives you more time to arrange financial aid.
Early Decision: Typically mid-December. Earlier application is strongly advised. Regular Decision: Typically February 28. National Outreach Programme (NOP): NOP has its own application — typically the same deadline as regular admissions. The NOP financial aid form must be submitted with your main application.
LUMS sends admission decisions on a rolling basis. Applying early means you hear back earlier — giving you time to respond, arrange funding, and plan.
For NOP applicants, also required:
LUMS requires an SAT score for all undergraduate applicants. The minimum is approximately 1200, but competitive applicants score 1300–1400 or above, depending on the programme.
SBASSE (engineering and sciences) applicants typically need higher Math scores. MGSHSS and SDSB applicants benefit from strong Reading and Writing sections.
Submit your SAT score directly from College Board using LUMS's College Board institution code. Do not wait to receive your score before applying — send it as soon as it is available.
LUMS takes the personal statement seriously. Admissions staff read every essay — it is not a formality.
The essay should be 500–650 words and address who you are and why you are applying to LUMS specifically. Do not describe your academic achievements (those are in your marksheets). Instead, reflect on an experience, idea, or question that has shaped how you think.
LUMS admissions readers specifically look for intellectual curiosity, self-awareness, and clarity of purpose. A generic essay about wanting to contribute to Pakistan's development will not distinguish you. A specific, honest essay about a real experience will.
The NOP is the most comprehensive scholarship available at any Pakistani university. It covers full tuition, on-campus housing, and a monthly stipend. It is specifically designed for high-potential students from underserved districts who cannot afford LUMS fees.
If you are from Balochistan, KPK, Gilgit-Baltistan, interior Sindh, AJK, or rural Punjab, and your family income is below Rs 45,000 per month, apply for the NOP.
The NOP is competitive but the pool is less crowded than general admissions — many eligible students do not apply because they do not know the programme exists. Daakhla helps eligible students build strong NOP applications.
