What is ECAT?

The ECAT (Engineering College Admission Test) is a standardised test used in Pakistan for admission to engineering universities, primarily UET Lahore and affiliated engineering colleges.

Definition

The ECAT is administered by the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore and is the primary admission criterion for engineering programmes at UET and its affiliated colleges. The test covers Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English at FSc pre-engineering level.

Merit for UET admission is calculated as a weighted combination of ECAT score and FSc marks. The ECAT is offered once or twice per year before the admission cycle.

Why it matters for Pakistani students

If you are applying to UET Lahore, ECAT performance is your primary admission criterion — more important than your FSc percentage in most cases. Dedicated ECAT preparation is different from SAT preparation; prepare specifically for the ECAT format. Note that NUST uses its own NET (not ECAT), and GIKI uses a separate entry test.
