What is Matriculation?

Matriculation refers to the formal process of enrolling at a university — officially becoming a registered student.

Definition

Matriculation is the formal act of enrolling and registering as a student at a university. In some systems, "matriculation" also refers to the secondary school leaving examination (as in "matric" in Pakistan, which refers to SSC — Secondary School Certificate).

In Pakistani university contexts, matriculation typically refers to completing the enrolment process: submitting originals of academic certificates, paying fees, registering for courses, and receiving your student ID.

Why it matters for Pakistani students

In Pakistan, "matric" is a crucial qualification — the SSC certificate is required by every university as proof of completion of secondary school. If you completed your secondary education through a board other than the standard ones (for example, through O-levels), you may need to provide equivalency certificates from IBCC (Inter Board Committee of Chairmen) before universities accept your application.
