A specialised local university; general-field students often look to nearby Karachi, which brings cost and competition
Lasbela is a coastal district in southern Balochistan, and its geography sets it apart from much of the province: Karachi is roughly two hours away. The Lasbela University of Agriculture, Water and Marine Sciences in Uthal serves the district, with a focus on agriculture and marine sciences. For students drawn to other fields, the proximity to Karachi is both an opportunity and a pressure — the city's universities are within reach, but so is the cost of living there and the competition for places.
Lasbela's literacy rate, around 44%, is slightly above the Balochistan average, helped in part by that closeness to Karachi. But proximity is not the same as access. A student from Lasbela competing for a place at IBA or Karachi University is still competing against city students who had coaching centres, school counsellors, and years of preparation.
The scholarships that level this field are available. Lasbela students qualify for the LUMS NOP, the Balochistan Government Scholarship, and HEC need-based aid. Being from Balochistan is an advantage in these programmes — one that many eligible students never use because no one told them it existed.
Full scholarship — tuition, accommodation, and monthly stipend
Up to Rs 40,000 per semester (tuition support)
50% grant + 50% loan (effectively full support for those who cannot repay)
Full tuition + monthly stipend (varies by scheme)
Full tuition reimbursement at public-sector universities
If you are from Lasbela, your proximity to Karachi is an asset — but apply as a Balochistan student, because that status unlocks scholarships city students cannot access. The LUMS NOP and Balochistan Government Scholarship are your strongest cards. Consider IBA's Talent Hunt Programme too, given how close Karachi is. Begin SAT prep early and reach out to Daakhla to plan which combination of applications gives you the best odds.
Daakhla is just starting out and has not yet guided a student from Lasbela. Your nearness to Karachi plus your eligibility for Balochistan scholarships is a powerful combination — and you could be the first student we help turn it into a place at a top university.
Free admissions counselling and SAT preparation for students from Pakistan’s underserved districts. Rs 10,000 for both programmes — full financial aid for those who need it.
