CPEC development has not yet translated into improved higher education access; small population with very limited local institutions
Gwadar is the centrepiece of CPEC — the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor — and has received significant infrastructure investment. Ports, roads, and industrial zones have been developed at scale. Higher education, however, has not kept pace: the University of Gwadar was established only recently and remains nascent. The secondary schools in Gwadar are improving but the pipeline from secondary to higher education remains thin.
The irony of Gwadar is that it is simultaneously one of Pakistan's most strategically important cities and one of the most underserved for education. Students who complete FSc in Gwadar and aspire to engineering, business, or medicine face the same challenges as students elsewhere in Makran: a very long journey to any institution worth attending, and costs that most families cannot bear without support.
Balochistan domicile opens the same scholarship pathways for Gwadar students as for students elsewhere in the province: LUMS NOP, Balochistan Government Scholarship, HEC need-based. Students who pursue education from Gwadar and return to the region after graduation are in a strong position as CPEC-related economic activity grows.
Full scholarship — tuition, accommodation, and monthly stipend
Up to Rs 40,000 per semester (tuition support)
Full scholarship — tuition, housing, and monthly living stipend
Full tuition + monthly stipend (varies by scheme)
Your Balochistan domicile is your strongest asset for scholarships. Apply to the LUMS NOP — students from Gwadar and Makran are specifically among the populations this programme was designed for. Engineering and port logistics programmes at universities in Karachi and Islamabad are worth considering given Gwadar's economic trajectory. Start early and contact Daakhla for remote guidance.
Daakhla is just starting out and has not yet guided a student from Gwadar. The opportunities in Gwadar's future should be accessible to the people who grew up there — and with Balochistan scholarships open now, you could be among the first students we help cross the distance to a top university.
Free admissions counselling and SAT preparation for students from Pakistan’s underserved districts. Rs 10,000 for both programmes — full financial aid for those who need it.
