The Digital SAT is the computer-based, adaptive version of the SAT introduced globally in 2024, replacing the paper-based SAT. It is shorter and adaptive — the difficulty of the second module adjusts based on performance in the first.
The Digital SAT replaced the paper SAT globally in 2024. It is taken on a computer (laptop or tablet) using the College Board's Bluebook app at official test centers. The test is 2 hours and 14 minutes — approximately an hour shorter than the old paper SAT.
The key feature of the Digital SAT is its multistage adaptive design. Each section (Reading/Writing and Math) has two modules. Your performance in module 1 determines whether you receive a harder or easier module 2. If you perform well in module 1, you access harder questions in module 2 — which allows you to earn higher scores. If you perform less well in module 1, you receive an easier module 2, which caps your potential score.
The Digital SAT uses an embedded calculator (Desmos) for the entire Math section, no longer prohibiting calculators in the first Math module as the old SAT did.
Pakistani students taking the SAT in 2024 and beyond are taking the Digital SAT. Practice materials must match this format — do not prepare using old paper SAT materials. The College Board's Bluebook app provides the most accurate practice. Khan Academy's updated free SAT prep is designed for the Digital SAT. The shorter test and built-in calculator generally benefit students who prepare with the right materials.
