More economically developed than other underserved regions due to diaspora remittances; challenge is accessing elite Pakistani institutions and international universities rather than access itself
Mirpur is unusually developed for an AJK district, owing to the large Pakistani-Kashmiri diaspora in the UK — particularly Bradford, Birmingham, and Manchester. Remittances from the Mirpuri diaspora have funded better schools, housing, and living standards than most of Pakistan's underserved regions. Literacy rates are among the highest in the country.
The challenge for Mirpur students is different from Balochistan or KPK: it is not survival but aspiration. Many students from Mirpur have the resources to attend university locally (MUST) or in Islamabad, but do not know how to access elite Pakistani institutions (LUMS, IBA) or international universities (UK, Canada, the US). The diaspora connection means UK universities are a realistic option that students elsewhere in Pakistan rarely consider.
For UK applications, the UCAS system and the community networks in UK cities make this pathway genuinely viable for Mirpur students with strong academic records. For Pakistani elite institutions, the same application process applies — SAT, personal statement, financial aid forms — with the advantage that financial barriers may be somewhat lower than for students from Balochistan or KPK.

Full scholarship — tuition, housing, and monthly living stipend
Full tuition reimbursement at public-sector universities

If you have family in the UK, UK university applications via UCAS are worth exploring in parallel with Pakistani applications. Chevening (for postgraduate) and Commonwealth Scholarships are also relevant for future stages. For Pakistani universities, AJK quota seats at QAU, NUST, and COMSATS give you an advantage in the merit calculation. Apply for HEC need-based scholarships if your family income qualifies.
Daakhla is new and has not yet guided a student from Mirpur — you could be the first. Between AJK quota seats, need-based aid, and the diaspora pathway to UK universities, the options here are wider than most students realise, and we will help you map them.
